Broadway 2 A Day: 1959 - 1961 (We finally get to The Sound of Music)

Month two complete, I have officially listened to 83 shows, I think I'll have to buy champagne or something once I hit 100. This week we had a few shows that closed quickly and never were recorded for posterity, sucks for them but makes my life easier! Let's dive in. Take Me Along    Have I heard of it before? No Did I enjoy it? No, snooze-fest to the max Synopsis: In ‘Take Me Along’ the literary-minded teen-ager, Richard Miller comes of age and has his first big crush, as his newspaper-editor father, Nat Miller, begins for the first time to feel old. Meanwhile, Nat's fun-loving, alcoholic brother-in-law, Sid Davis, returns to Centerville, having lost his job in Waterbury. A bon vivant on whom the years have begun to weigh heavily, he has made a vow to stay sober and to marry Nat's sister Lily, his longtime sweetheart. Broadway 2 A Day: 1958 - 1959 (I love Gypsy and I'm not ashamed)

Almost two months down! This challenge has had quite a few duds, but it has given me something to do each week and I'm still enjoying the process. This week I also decided to re-listen to every Taylor Swift album in chronological order to prepare for the re-recorded version of Fearless that's coming in April. So my Spotify Wrapped this year is going to be a whole mess, I've accepted it. Let's dive in. Juno  Have I heard of it before? No, I think I much prefer the unrelated movie starring Elliot Page  Did I enjoy it? This was in one ear and out the other, someone might as well have been giving me driving directions because I do not remember a word of this. Synopsis:  This story chronicles the disintegration of an Irish family in Dublin in the early 1920s, during the Troubles between the Irish Republican Army and the British. Juno is the hardworking matriarch who struggles to hold the family together in the face of war, betrayal, and her worthless husband's drinking.

Broadway 2 A Day: 1957 - 1959 (Music Man, Annie Get Your Gun + more)

Welcome back! We are a month and a half into this challenge and I have listened to and blogged about 67 shows to date. As a reminder, all of my favorite songs from each show can be found on Spotify here , for your distilled listening experience.  This week we had a few shows lost to time so this is a bit of a shorter list, kind of a bummer but it also gives me a break so I can go back to listening to Phoebe Bridgers, Harry Styles and Miley 24/7 again. We are also starting to get into the territory of shows I have actually seen live now. so I will be noting that as we go. Let's get into it. The Music Man Have I heard of it before? Yes, I saw a high school production as a kid Did I enjoy it? I think a couple songs are pretty but the plot is terrible. Harold Hill needs to answer for his actions! Synopsis: When smooth-talking con man Harold Hill arrives in a small, tight-knit town in Iowa, he expects to dupe its residents with his elaborate moneymaking scheme: Despite his complete lack

Broadway 2 A Day: 1955 - 1958 (Finally time for My Fair Lady & West Side Story!)

If you're still reading these, I know you love me because the last 2-3 weeks of shows have been pretty rough to get through. But I am still dedicated to the journey, it's not like I have something more interesting to do in the middle of the pandemic winter.  Let's dive in - we've got a couple classics this week! My Fair Lady  Have I heard of it before? Yes, I will always watch the movie if it's on TV Did I enjoy it? Yes, it was great to hear Julie Andrews Synopsis: My Fair Lady is a musical based on George Bernard Shaw's 1913 play Pygmalion, with book and lyrics by Alan Jay Lerner and music by Frederick Loewe. The story concerns Eliza Doolittle, a Cockney flower girl who takes speech lessons from professor Henry Higgins, a phonetician, so that she may pass as a lady.
