Broadway 2 A Day: 1967 - 1969 (Hair & Promises Promises Both Have Good Revivals)

Back at it again with a short week, only six shows had available recordings since I last blogged. I will admit a short week is always nice for me because when I actually have to listen to two shows every day it can be overwhelming.  This week we had two shows I already know I like, a couple duds, and a couple sleeper hit songs. Let's dive in. Golden Rainbow Have I heard of it before? No Did I enjoy it? There were some classic Broadway-style songs in here that I really liked Synopsis: The show concerns a man living in Las Vegas, Nevada and raising his son alone; his late wife's sister arrives and tries to bring stability to the boy's life, but unintentionally falls in love with her brother-in-law. The show starred Steve Lawrence and Eydie Gormé for its entire run until it closed in early 1969. (Wikipedia) Favorite song: I've Gotta Be Me (very Sinatra sounding) Hair Have I heard of it before? Yes! My mom and I saw a community theatre production of the show a few years ago

Broadway 2 A Day: 1966 - 1968 (Just listen to the 1998 recording of Cabaret)

Me again! This was another boring week, so far the 60s is not delivering for me. Although I'm sure if I were sitting in a theatre seeing some of these live with the dancing, and the costumes and the sets I would enjoy them more. This week we did have Cabaret which has become one of my favorite shows over the past couple years. The movie is terrible, but if you ever get a chance to see it live (or find a bootleg of the 1998 cast or something), give it a go, it's got a lot more depth than you might think. On an administrative note, Blogspot will no longer be supporting email subscriptions come July so stay tuned while I try to figure that out so that you, my *loyal fans,* can continue to hear these hot takes. Let's dive in. The Apple Tree Have I heard of it before? No Did I enjoy it? I don't even remember listening to it to be honest Synopsis: The Apple Tree is three one-act musicals that can be presented separately or in any combination to provide a full evening of enter

Broadway 2 A Day: 1964 - 1966 (Man of La Mancha, Sweet Charity, Mame)

Hello again! I have now surpassed 130 shows and I can confidently say that only about 20% of that has been worth listening to. Nevertheless, I've come this far.  This week was kind of all over the place, after Fiddler on the Roof last week it's hard to go back to shows that sound like they should have debuted in the 50s. It's weird to think about nostalgia for a time that wasn't that long ago but I guess we kind of still do that with the 90s/2000s.  Let's dive in. Flora, The Red Menace Have I heard of it before? Yes but I knew nothing about it Did I enjoy it? This had some fun numbers, and Liza Minelli is very talented obviously  Synopsis: The plot follows headstrong wannabe fashion designer Flora Mezaros, one member of an artists' co-operative of bohemian types - dancers, musicians, designers - struggling to find work during the Depression. Hoping to find a job that pays at least $15 a week, she is hired by the head of a large department store at $30. She falls
