Broadway 2 A Day: 2005-2008 (The Color Purple, Spring Awakening, Legally Blonde and more!)

I can't believe October is almost over and there are only two months of shows left! Seeing shows like Spring Awakening and Legally Blonde on the list reminds me of just how far we've come since January. I have listened to, or at the very least skimmed through, 333 shows and am firmly in the era of modern musical theatre.  It's only getting better (or at least more familiar from here.) Let's get into it. The Woman in White Have I heard of it before? No, I don't know how I missed all these random Andrew Lloyd Webber shows Did I enjoy it? No, this score was truly painful Synopsis: Drawing master Walter Hartright arrives at Limmeridge House to teach sisters, Laura and Marian. Walter falls instantly in love with Laura and his feelings are returned. However, their relationship is thwarted by Laura’s engagement to the apparently honorable and charming Sir Percival Glyde. When Walter has a chance encounter with a mysterious woman, dressed all in white and looking the double

Broadway 2 A Day: 2003-2006 (Assassins, Spelling Bee, Spamalot, Drowsy Chaperone)

What's up party people??? You'll be thrilled to know that as of today I am caught up on this challenge. It's truly a miracle and it will not last long. 320 shows down and only two-ish months more to go. We're in the mid-2000s so we're getting into some of the shows that I discovered in middle school and early high school when I really become a Broadway junkie.  Let's dive in.  Caroline, or Change Have I heard of it before? Yes, but I didn't know anything about it Did I enjoy it? There were some good moments but overall I felt like it was too long and I didn't love any of the songs Synopsis: Caroline Thibodeaux, an African-American single mother of four, is underground, in the basement of the Gellman’s home, where nothing ever changes. Her company is the hum of the washer, the croon of the radio, the heat of the dryer, and -- occasionally -- 8-year-old Noah Gellman, a motherless boy who, unable to connect with either his eager-to-please stepmother, Rose,

Broadway 2 A Day: 2000 - 2004 (The Producers, Mamma Mia, Hairspray, Wicked and more)

Alright, we're into the 2000s and we are about to hit some absolute MONEY MAKERS, some SHOWSTOPPERS - let's get into it. And as always, you can follow along with my favorite songs on Spotify here .  Jane Eyre Have I heard of it before? No, I had no idea there was a musical version Did I enjoy it? Overall, but it was sooooo long Synopsis: This musical adaptation follows the independent, passionate governess Jane Eyre, through her harsh childhood after being left as an orphan to an uncaring aunt, through her employment as a governess at Thornfield Hall. There, she meets the mysterious and magnetic Edward Fairfax Rochester, master of the house and warden of her pupil. Though drawn to each other, they are haunted by the ghosts of Mr. Rochester’s past, which threaten to enjoy any possibilities of a future of love or happiness for either. Broadway 2 A Day: 1998 - 2001 (Aida, The Full Monty, Seussical)

Heeeyyyyy, how y'all doin?? To no one's surprise I am behind on this blog, the problem this time is that there are a lot more good shows the closer we get to the "present day."  Also, if you are still reading this blog 300+ shows later you may be entitled to financial compensation.  Fosse Have I heard of it before? Not specifically Did I enjoy it? No, I'm so over revues Synopsis: Fosse’s innovative and utterly unique style of dance--jazz hands, turned-in knees, bowler hats, gloves--has become a cornerstone of modern musical theatre. Fosse, created by his closest associates and friends, is a celebration of the great artist’s work. Fosse’s original choreography from 13 of his shows is recreated, continuing the legacy of one of the greatest musical theatre artists of all time.
